Cigars are so enjoyable, even your favorite celebrities, politicians, and pro athletes smoke them! Here are 5 famous cigar smokers you may not have known smoked cigars.

Sir Winston Churchill

You may know him for successfully leading Britain through World War Two and his inspiring speeches, but did you know that Winston Churchill was an avid cigar smoker? It’s true! His love for cigars began while he was serving in Cuba. While he was only there for a few months, he fell in love with cigars, most notably, Romeo y Julieta. After leaving, Churchill was rarely caught without a cigar in hand or in his mouth. In fact, he was known to smoke 8-10 cigars a day.

Mark Twain

Samuel Clemens, better known as Mark Twain is by far the most serious cigar smoker on the list. He truly knew how to enjoy a cigar. Whether on set for a film or relaxing at home, Twain smoked at least 22 cigars a day. He was introduced at just eight years old and tried to quit many times, to no avail. Mark Twain famously quoted, “If smoking is not allowed in heaven, I shall not go.

Arnold Schwarzenegger

Arnold Schwarzenegger was first introduced to cigars when he met his now-wife, Maria Shriver at the Kennedys’ pro-celebrity tennis tournament. After the tournament ended, Arnold was offered a cigar at the Shriver house and was hooked. He is known for smoking one to two cigars a day unless he has some leftover from the day before. Schwarzenegger also religiously attends first-Monday-of-the-month cigar nights.  His favorite cigar brands include Punch and Cohiba.

Jack Nicholson

Unlike some on the list, Jack Nicholson didn’t always smoke cigars. He was actually a heavy cigarette user. It wasn’t until later in his life when he made a switch after starring in realizing he was smoking far too many cigarettes during his golf games to calm his nerves. To limit his cigarette smoking, Nicholson took up cigars, and the rest is history. You can now find him enjoying a Montecristo while in the states.

Babe Ruth

As an iconic baseball player, everyone looked up to Babe Ruth. Ruth’s love for cigars started after learning how to roll them from Xavierian Brothers at a strict reform school called St. Mary’s Industrial School. This introduction to cigars carried into his adult life while playing baseball. Ruth always had to have something in his mouth, whether that be pipes, cigarettes, snuff, or cigars. While living in Boston, Ruth even invested in a cigar factory and had the factory name a cigar after him: Babe Ruth Perfecto.
